Majorca

Majorca is a great destination for families. Flight time from London is 2 hours, the weather is generally warm (or hot if you go in the peak season) with a few rainy days per month.

Where we stayed

We stayed at Zafiro PalmaNova in a roof terraced apartment with a hot tub on a half board basis. The resort was very clean and the facilities were all very nice. The food wasn’t great but it was by no means awful – we always managed to find something to eat. The allergy information wasn’t great so if I were to stay here again it would be on a room only basis.

We went at the start of April and we’re particularly looking forwards to using the pools/pirate ship but unfortunately the water temperature on the outside swimming pools were too cold, so something to consider if you’re not going in the height of summer. There was an indoor pool which was warm enough but it was only really good fit lane swimming. During busy periods the indoor pool is restricted to adults only swimming.

Another thing to note is that the kids club is not in operation out of the high season and they run a reduced entertainment schedule but we did see a couple of shows on in the evening.

The best feature by far was the private hot tub on the roof terrace (you can also book a room with a balcony and hot tub if you’d prefer). Usually on family holidays me and the other half spend our evenings in front of the telly once the little one has gone to bed, so having the hot tub have us something a bit more exciting to do.

Warming up in the hot tub

The location was good, it was close to the beach and town. The seafront was particularly nice, there were lots of bars/restaurants along the promenade and you could take a boat trip from the jetty or hire a bike/tandem/ChuckleVision thing (I’m sure they must have a real name but I can’t think what).

The town itself was mostly bars/restaurants/souvenier shops but that suited us as we spent most of the days on the beach or at one of the many playgrounds died around.

Attractions

Around PalmaNova there are a few attractions you can visit for fun family days out. They have a couple of aquariums, a water park, a theme park (only open during high season) and a pirate live-action dinner. There are also the beaches and playgrounds which are all kept really nice and clean.

We visited MarineLand and had a fab day there. It’s a small aquarium, the park itself is nothing amazing but the dolphin and sea lion shows are fantastic. I definitely recommend going for these if you’re in the area.

I feel a special mention should go out to Antiu Xixona which was a great ice cream shop along the beach front. We went there every day of our break in order to try and sample all the flavours and they were all pretty good.
